Plaster Totems
Artbox is a meeting of artists with learning disabilities, they meet every week and are supported in their making - working towards exhibitions and sales.
I was asked to run an artist led session. I introduced the group to plaster; exploring quick ways to get results using packaging and clay to create spaces to cast.
The idea of making a totem pole or monument to themselves was the starting point for the session. Exploring shapes and forms that were familiar and favourable to them in their art making.
It was a really enjoyable session, all the artists made completely individual work, I will potentially go back in the future and help the artists with the material should they decide it is something they would like to use in their own practice.
